“Lately, my back has been bothering me more than usual. After discussing with my medical team, I’ve decided to undergo endoscopic treatment for my back issues next week.”
Axelsen emphasized that recovery will take time, and he will be off the badminton court for a while.
“But I’m confident I’ll come back stronger. I still feel like I have a lot of badminton in me, and I am fully committed to doing everything necessary to return to the court at my best.”
The reigning Olympic gold medalist from both Tokyo and Paris added:
“I’m surrounded by extremely competent people, and I am looking forward to being able to hopefully train and compete pain-free again”
Currently ranked World No. 3, Axelsen has already claimed two BWF World Tour titles this season—the India Open and the German Open—before his health concerns forced him to take a break.
