Miyazaki Claims Maiden Title in Taipei
World No. 8 Tomoka Miyazaki, only 18 years old, clinched her first Taipei Open title by defeating Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh in a gripping women’s singles final: 21-14, 20-22, 21-14.
A former World Junior Champion, Miyazaki has enjoyed a rapid ascent on the BWF World Tour, claiming the 2023 Orleans Masters and reaching the finals of the China Open Super 1000. She came into Taipei as the top seed and didn’t disappoint, showcasing her consistency and court maturity.
Despite dropping the second game, Miyazaki’s strong start and late-match composure secured her victory and continued her dominance over Opatniputh, having now won all four of their encounters.
Loh Kean Yew Stuns Home Favorite Chou Tien Chen
In the men’s singles final, Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew edged past Taiwanese top seed Chou Tien Chen in a dramatic three-game battle: 21-14, 15-21, 22-20.

Despite a strong comeback by Chou in the second game and saving four match points in the decider, Loh kept his nerve. His final cross-court smash—initially ruled out but reversed after a challenge—sealed the title and denied Chou a record fifth Taipei Open championship.
Local Doubles Delight: Taiwan Wins Men’s and Women’s Titles
In front of a roaring home crowd, Taiwanese pairs triumphed in both the men’s and women’s doubles:
Men’s Doubles: Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin defeated Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk/Ki Dong Ju 21-18, 21-15, marking their first title as a duo.
Women’s Doubles: Hsieh Pei Shan/Hung En-Tzu overcame Japan’s Mizuki Otake/Miyu Takahashi 21-14, 21-15, becoming the first Taiwanese women’s pair to win in Taipei since 2008.
Mixed Doubles Drama: Indonesia Takes the Crown
Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu staged a remarkable comeback to defeat compatriots Dejan Ferdinansyah and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 18-21, 21-13, 21-17 in the mixed doubles final.
After trailing 7-14 and 11-15 in the third game, Jafar and Felisha showed incredible resilience to snatch the title in a thrilling conclusion.
