Kuala Lumpur – Pearly Tan–Thinaah Muralitharan, the 2025 World Championships silver medal may have marked a career milestone, but according to women’s doubles coach Rosman Razak, the most significant victory for Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah at the 2025 BWF World Championships was their mental transformation under pressure.
The Malaysian women’s pair finished as runners-up in Paris after falling in a gripping three-game final to China’s world No. 1 duo Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning with scores of 14-21, 22-20, 17-21.
Rosman emphasized that Pearly and Thinaah’s ability to stay composed, adjust strategies mid-match, and fully trust coaching directions—even when their original game plan faltered—was what set them apart this tournament.
“They weren’t always playing perfectly, but what stood out was their maturity in following instructions and willingness to shift tactics without frustration,” said Rosman.
“In high-intensity badminton, it’s normal for emotions to run high when plans don’t work. But they’ve learned to block out negativity and stay focused on execution, regardless of the outcome. That’s a big leap forward.”
In a separate interview, Rosman noted that their ability to adapt—regardless of being in control or chasing the game—demonstrated a new level of resilience.
“No matter how much pre-match planning we do, in the end, you must be able to respond to real-time situations, and they did exactly that this week. I’m proud of how mature they’ve become,” he added.
Rosman believes Pearly and Thinaah are now setting a new benchmark for Malaysian women’s badminton, and are on the path to becoming future world champions.
“This silver is not the end—it’s a signal of what’s to come. Their ceiling is higher. With continued effort, I believe they can win the World Championship title soon.”
He also hopes their success will inspire the next generation of female players in Malaysia and encourage more young girls to take up badminton.
