Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia’s top men’s singles shuttler, Leong Jun Hao, admits that adjusting to the training methods of BAM’s Director of Singles Coaching, Kenneth Jonassen, hasn’t been easy. However, after months of intense preparation, the 25-year-old says he’s now starting to understand and apply Jonassen’s coaching philosophy more effectively.
“I’m beginning to grasp what the coach wants, and I feel more confident transferring what I’ve learned in training into match situations,” said Jun Hao.
Leong Jun Hao recently overtook professional star Lee Zii Jia in the latest BWF World Rankings, rising to No. 25 while Zii Jia dropped to No. 28.
Despite a challenging year—exiting early in eight out of nine tournaments—Jun Hao believes his form is steadily improving. His only notable result so far was reaching the quarterfinals at the Singapore Open last month.
The former Asian Junior Champion is now entering a critical phase of preparation for three major upcoming tournaments: the Japan Open (July 15–20), the China Open (July 22–27), and the BWF World Championships in Paris (August 25–31).
