Saarbrücken, Germany — Indonesia’s top shuttler Jonatan Christie is through to the 2025 Hylo Open final after overcoming home favorite Alex Lanier of France in a thrilling semi-final at Saarlandhalle on Saturday.

Jonatan fought back from one game down to win 18–21, 21–19, 21–9, securing his first-ever appearance in a Hylo Open final and continuing his strong form on the European circuit.

The 26-year-old Indonesian maintained his composure under pressure, turning around the second game with timely net play and quick recoveries before dominating the decider. He will now aim for his second BWF World Tour title of the season.


Sabar Gutama/Moh Reza Stop Malaysian Dream Run

Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani joined their teammate in the final after defeating Malaysia’s Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun 21–16, 21–15 in 39 minutes.

Tee appeared to be struggling with a leg injury during the match, showing visible discomfort and limited movement.

After the game, Tee Kai Wun shared a post on his social media, showing that he was undergoing leg therapy following the semi-final loss.

Match Summary

The Indonesians came out strong, racing to an 11–2 lead in the first game before closing it 21–16 despite a brief comeback by the Malaysians, who managed a 5–0 run midway through.

In the second game, Man and Tee fought hard to level at 10–10 but could not sustain the pace. Gutama and Moh Reza scored four consecutive points at 12–12 to regain control and sealed the match 21–15.

This was the fourth international meeting between the two pairs, with the Indonesians now holding a 3–1 head-to-head advantage, having also beaten the Malaysians at the 2024 Hong Kong Open (quarter-finals) and the 2024 Indonesia Open (semi-finals).

The defeat ends Malaysia’s campaign at the 2025 Hylo Open. It was Man and Tee’s third semi-final appearance this season after impressive runs at the Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open earlier this year.
