Ningbo, China – Malaysia’s top-ranked mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai, kicked off their 2025 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) campaign with a solid performance, advancing to the second round after defeating India’s Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath in straight sets, 21-18, 21-19.
The third seeds of the tournament showed composure and consistency in their opening-round win at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, but a tougher challenge now awaits.
In the round of 16, Goh and Lai will face Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Suppissara Paewsampran, the reigning Malaysia Open champions. It will be the fourth encounter between the two duos this season.

Swiss Open: Dechapol/Suppissara edged them out in the quarterfinals
The Thai pair currently lead their head-to-head with a 3-2 record, making this upcoming clash a highly anticipated rematch for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other Malaysian Results in Mixed Doubles:
Yap Roy King / Valeree Siow, the young Malaysian pair, showed resilience after dropping the first set to India’s Rohan Kapoor / Gadde Ruthvika Shivani, eventually triumphing 18-21, 21-17, 21-19. They now await the winner of the match between Macau’s Leong Lok Chong / Ng Weng Chi and Japan’s 8th seeds Hiroki Midorikawa / Natsu Saito in round two.
Unfortunately, Hoo Pang Ron / Cheng Su Yin couldn’t sustain their momentum, falling to India’s Dhruv Kapila / Tanisha Crasto 21-15, 12-21, 11-21 in a three-game battle.
Malaysian professional duo Wong Tien Ci / Lim Chiew Sin were also eliminated, losing 16-21, 14-21 to Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami / Sayaka Hobara.
As Malaysia’s hopes now rest heavily on Goh and Shevon, fans will be eagerly watching their next match in this crucial leg of the Asian tour.
