Triple Title Hopes for Taiwan in Taipei Finals
Taiwan has three representatives in Sunday’s finals. Women’s doubles duo Hsieh Pei Shan/Hung En Tzu will open proceedings at 12:50 PM against Japan’s Mizuki Otake/Miyu Takahashi, aiming to become the first local pair to win the event in 17 years.
Following them, men’s doubles team Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin will face Korea’s Ki Dong Ju/Kang Min Hyuk at 2:30 PM. The Taiwanese pair are seeking their first title since their partnership began last August. They previously lost to the Korean duo at the Orleans Masters.
Chou Tien Chen will close the day as the final act, with his match against Loh Kean Yew scheduled for 3:20 PM. A win would see Chou extend his own record with a fifth career Taipei Open championship.
Miyazaki vs. Opatniput: Teenage Showdown in Women’s Singles
In women’s singles, top seed Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan stormed past India’s Unnati Hooda 21-19, 21-11 to reach the final. She’ll meet Thailand’s rising star Pitchamon Opatniput, who upset Korea’s Sim Yu Jin in the other semifinal.
Both players are 18 years old, marking the youngest-ever women’s singles final in Taipei Open history since 2008’s clash between Saina Nehwal (18) and Malaysia’s Lydia Cheah (19).
Miyazaki, a former World Junior Champion and currently ranked No. 8 in the world, is eyeing her second BWF Super 300 title after winning the Orleans Masters last year.
All-Indonesian Showdown in Mixed Doubles
In mixed doubles, it’s an all-Indonesian final. Dejan Ferdinansyah and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti will take on compatriots Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
Both pairs cruised through the semifinals and are now battling for the Super 300 title in Taipei.
