PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles player Chen Tang Jie does not want to dwell on what has happened as he intends to move on from the recent issue involving him and previous partner Toh Ee Wei.
Tang Jie said he is committed to giving his full focus in training and trusts the decisions made by the coaches.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia last week decided to separate Tang Jie and her mixed doubles partner Ee Wei and combine them with Chan Wen Tse and Loo Bing Kun respectively following the duo’s strained relationship for the past few months.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei had climbed as high as No. 3 in the world rankings and made the quarter-finals in their Olympic debut in Paris last year.
However, there were signs of cracks in their partnership after their first-round defeat in the All-England last month and Ee Wei went on to delete all pictures with her partner on her Instagram account.
Tang Jie explained that he does not want to think too much about the matter to the point that it affects his performance and because of that, he will continue to focus on his training on court.
“Every day in training, I don’t think much and I trust the coaches because the decisions they make are the best,” he said.
“For me, every day I continue to work hard and do what I love (training and playing badminton).’’
The 27-year-old is looking forward to testing out his compatibility with new partners in the Taiwan and Thailand Opens next month.
He will team up with Wong Vin Sean in the men’s doubles while in the mixed doubles event, he will be paired with Wen Tse.
Ee Wei will be paired with Bing Kun for the Taiwan and Thailand Opens.
Tang Jie may no longer be together with Ee Wei but both could still be part of the national team for the Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China, from April 27-May 4.
National mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto indicated that Malaysia could name six mixed doubles players for the tournament with Tang Jie and Ee Wei still very much in contention due to their versatility.
World No. 3 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and world No. 14 Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin are almost certain to make the squad.
The final squad are expected to be named before the end of this week. The deadline to submit the final Sudirman Cup squad is April 14, with teams allowed to name a maximum of 20 players.
Ee Wei has previously partnered Pang Ron (mixed doubles) and Pearly Tan (women’s doubles) while Tang Jie has played with various partners in mixed doubles.
