On Saturday 29th March, Badminton England CEO Sue Storey, was in Serbia to celebrate some homegrown winners at the Badminton Europe Awards 2025.
Hosted in Belgrade at the BEC Congress, there was plenty of British interest in the nominations for awards this year.
Four miraculous shots from 2024 were nominated for the ‘Shot of the Year’ gong and our very own Nadeem Dalvi took the trophy for a diving effort that is almost impossible to describe.
Dalvi beat off competition from Viktor Axelsen’s backhand smash and pirouette, Anders Antonsen’s left-handed improvised effort and Ben Lane’s breathtaking backward dive to win the award.
England’s Rajeev Bagga was nominated for the BEC Senior Player of the Year accolade but was pipped at the post by Scotland’s Dan Travers who received the award ahead of fellow nominees Bagga, Carl-Johan Nybergh of Finland and Romania’s Florentina Constantinescu.
Meanwhile, Badminton Wales were nominated in the Social Media presence category, only to lose out to YONEX All England 2025 stars Jenny and Greg Mairs and the strides they have taken with their Badminton Insight channel.
The amazing Daniel Bethell picked up his second successive Olympic silver medal last summer and was rightly nominated for the BEC Para-badminton Player of the Year – only to miss out to another worthy winner in France’s Charles Noakes, still smiling from his gold medal win against Krysten Coombs in Paris.
And Malcolm Banham was also recognised on the night, winning the Technical Official award to complete the British success in Belgrade. Congratulations to all the award winners in 2025.
