KUALA LUMPUR, May 2025 — Fresh off their title win in Thailand, world No. 3 pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik continued their fine form by marching into the Malaysia Masters 2025 semi-finals after a dominant 21-10, 21-19 win over Denmark’s Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard in just 35 minutes.

They now face a much-anticipated clash with fellow Danes and world No. 1s Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, setting up a rematch of their bronze-medal showdown at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Chia-Soh triumphed in a thriller 16-21, 22-20, 21-19.
“Every match is different. We know them, they know us. It’s more about controlling the game and giving our best,” said Soh Wooi Yik, hinting at the intense familiarity between both pairs, who will meet for the 13th time, with the Malaysians holding an 8-4 head-to-head lead.
Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun Stun World No. 2s to Join Semi-Finals
In another surprise of the day, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun staged a brilliant comeback to defeat second seeds Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin in an all-Malaysian quarter-final.
Despite losing the opening set 19-21, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun bounced back with aggression, dominating the next two sets 21-7, 21-16 to earn their first victory over the world No. 2 pair.
“We regrouped after losing the first set. Our structure was better in sets two and three,” said Wei Chong, whose pair now trails 1-2 in the head-to-head against Goh Sze Fei-Bur Izzuddin.
The duo now face Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi, who ousted China’s Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang 21-10, 21-13.
Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan Ease into Women’s Doubles Semis
Malaysia’s top women’s pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan also secured their place in the semi-finals after a commanding 21-14, 21-14 victory over Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi in just 34 minutes.
Still riding high from their Thailand Open triumph, Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan now face China’s powerhouse pair Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian, who overcame Indonesian pair Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in a tight three-set battle.
“We’re not thinking too far ahead. Right now, it’s all about recovery and preparing for the next match,” said Thinaah.
