Jakarta, Indonesia – Malaysian men’s doubles stars Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik saw their quest for a first BWF Super 1000 title come to an abrupt end in the opening round of the 2025 Indonesia Open.
Competing at the iconic Istora Senayan arena in Jakarta, the third-seeded duo fell in a tightly contested three-game battle to Denmark’s Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard, losing 13-21, 21-19, 18-21 in just under an hour.

Despite bouncing back impressively in the second game, the Malaysian pair appeared fatigued in the decider—likely a consequence of their packed schedule, which included four consecutive finals in just over a month.
Their recent run includes:
🏆 Asian Championships Champion
🏆 Thailand Open Champion (Super 500)
🥈 Malaysia Masters Runner-Up
🏆 Singapore Open Champion (Super 750)
The loss also marks the second time Aaron and Wooi Yik have fallen to the Danish pair in a first-round Super 1000 clash, having suffered a similar fate at the All England Open in March.
Missing out on the Indonesia Open title also means losing the lucrative $107,300 prize awarded to the men’s doubles champions.
Their final shot at a 2025 Super 1000 crown now rests on next month’s China Open.
