PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei need to be wary of the threat posed by newly formed Indonesian combo Rehan Naufal-Gloria Emanuelle when the two pairs clash in the Orleans Masters second round today.
Rehan-Gloria, who were only paired together at the end of January, impressed by finishing runners-up to the Dutch and Danish combination of Robin Tabeling-Alexandra Boje in the German Open in Mulheim on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Gloria has plenty of experience and reached the world’s top 10 with two different partners previously, Hafiz Faizal (No. 6) and Dejan Ferdinansyah (No. 10) while Rehan, 25, made it to No. 10 in the world with Lisa Ayu.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who are the tournament’s top seeds, need to be at their best to overcome the Indonesians and keep alive their chances of capturing the title.
Yesterday, the world No. 4 pair made a good start to their campaign when they swept aside India’s Ashith Surya-Amrutha Pramuthesh 21-10, 21-15 at the Palais des Sports in France.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei are keen to do well in the event which also serves as a warm-up ahead of the All-England next week.
The Orleans Masters also holds sweet memories for the pair as they won their maiden World Tour title here in 2023.
Meanwhile, independent pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien crashed out early after losing 9-21, 16-21 to China’s Zhu Yijun-Zhang Chi.
