Kuala Lumpur — Malaysian badminton fans enjoyed a rare treat as two of the sport’s most recognizable stars — Japan’s former World No. 1 Kento Momota and Korea’s reigning men’s doubles World No. 1 Seo Seung Jae — made separate visits to Malaysia this week, each for very different purposes but both creating tremendous buzz among local supporters.
Japanese legend Kento Momota, widely regarded as one of the greatest talents in modern badminton, arrived in Penang to take part in the Century Cup, a special team event held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Penang Badminton Association.
Dressed casually in a bright green top and white shorts, Momota represented the Penang team and played in the men’s doubles group match, contributing 20 points toward his team’s tally.

Momota expressed his admiration for Penang’s badminton culture, saying:
“This is my first time in Penang, and the badminton culture here is incredibly strong.”
The Century Cup features a unique scoring system — five events in total, and the first team to reach 100 points wins.
Momota took the court with full commitment and spent time interacting warmly with fans who had gathered to welcome the Japanese superstar.
