
Odense, Denmark — Riding high after their recent Arctic Open victory, Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan continued their strong momentum at the 2025 Denmark Open, cruising into the Round of 16 with a straight-game win over Indonesia’s Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum.
The No. 2 seeds took just 36 minutes to seal a 21–13, 21–17 victory in their opening match at the Super 750 tournament.

In the opening game, Tan and Muralitharan quickly found their rhythm. After a 4–4 tie, the Malaysians went on a 3–0 run and never looked back, closing the first game 21–13. The second game saw a tighter contest, with the Indonesians narrowing the gap to within a single point on two occasions. However, the Malaysians maintained composure to secure a 21–17 finish and move confidently into the last 16.
Their next test will be against Japan’s Arisa Igarashi/Chiharu Shida, who advanced with a 21–7, 21–16 victory over Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting/Yeung Pui Lam.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s rising women’s doubles duo Ong Xin Yee/Carmen Ting also reached the second round after a solid win against Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr of Ukraine, 21–10, 21–9. They will face Korea’s No. 3 seeds Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Hee Yong for a place in the quarter-finals.
Tough Day for Malaysian Men’s Doubles
It was a rough start for Malaysia’s men’s doubles department as all four pairs suffered first-round exits in Odense.

Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi lost 19–21, 14–21 to France’s Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov, ending their four-match winning streak in this rivalry.

Junaidi Arif/Yap Roy King were beaten 15–21, 19–21 by Japan’s Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, marking their second straight loss to the world champions.

Second seeds Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik and third seeds Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin were also shown the exit earlier in the day, completing a clean sweep of defeats for Malaysia’s top pairs.
The lone bright spot remains the veteran duo Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub/Tan Wee Kiong, who defeated China’s Xie Haonan/Zeng Wei Han 21–13, 21–15 and will face top seeds Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae of Korea in the next round.
