Odense, Denmark — Malaysia’s newly crowned world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei began their 2025 Denmark Open campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Yang Po-Hsuan/Hu Ling Fang of Chinese Taipei in straight games to advance to the Round of 16.
Competing as the No. 4 seeds, Chen and Toh needed just 32 minutes to wrap up a comfortable 21–15, 21–9 win, marking their second consecutive victory over the Taiwanese pair. Their previous encounter was at the 2023 Taipei Open, where the Malaysians also won in two games (21–15, 21–14).

The pair’s return to Europe comes shortly after their historic World Championship triumph in Paris on Malaysia’s National Day, adding extra confidence to their performance. They will next face Gao Jia Xuan/Wu Meng Ying of China, who advanced after a hard-fought 21–12, 13–21, 21–17 victory over Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit/Benyapa Aimsaard.
Fairytale Comeback from Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai
Malaysia’s experienced mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai also moved into the Round of 16 after defeating Taiwan’s Lu Ming Che/Hung En-Tzu 21–14, 21–17.
Playing in the hometown of legendary storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, the Malaysian duo produced a comeback worthy of a fairy tale. After a smooth first game, they trailed 1–8 in the second before launching an incredible fightback to lead 13–11 and seal the win 21–17.
They will meet Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami/Sayaka Hobara in the next round as they aim to break their recent quarter-final barrier, having last reached a semi-final at the India Open in January.
