
TAIPEI — Taiwan’s top men’s singles star, world No. 7 Chou Tien Chen, pulled off a thrilling comeback today at the Taipei Open 2025, fighting past Indonesia’s 17-year-old Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah 16-21, 21-18, 21-19 to storm into the semifinals.

Ubaidillah, the 2023 World Junior bronze medalist, stunned Chou early, racing to a 7-1 lead and snatching the first game. But the 35-year-old veteran’s experience shone through in the second game, where he unleashed a stunning 11-point run to reclaim momentum. Despite late nerves, Chou edged the second game and carried that composure into the decider, winning in just over an hour to the cheers of the home crowd.
Chou will now face India’s 20-year-old Ayush Shetty, who has been on fire after defeating Taiwan’s Lee Chia Hao, India’s former world No. 1 Srikanth Kidambi, and Canada’s Brian Yang in a three-set thriller 16-21, 21-19, 21-14.
Chen Tang Jie-Chan Wen Tse: Malaysia’s Lone Survivors
Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse emerged as the country’s last standing representatives at the 2025 Taipei Open. They breezed into the semifinals after dispatching Indonesia’s Bobby Setiabudi-Melati Daeva Oktavianti 22-20, 21-10 in just 28 minutes.
Seeded seventh, Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse now face a tough semifinal clash against Indonesia’s fourth seeds, Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, in a bid to reach the final.
Unfortunately, Malaysia’s other mixed pair, Loo Bing Kun and Toh Ee Wei, fell short in their quarterfinal battle, losing 22-20, 17-21, 12-21 to Indonesia’s Dejan Ferdinansyah and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
Singles Disappointments for Malaysia
In men’s singles, Malaysia’s Justin Hoh couldn’t keep his run alive, bowing out to Taiwan’s Wang Tzu Wei 13-21, 15-21 in 44 minutes. Women’s singles hopeful K Letshanaa also exited after a hard-fought three-set loss to Korea’s Sim Yu Jin, going down 16-21, 21-13, 15-21.
