Basel, Switzerland – The 2025 Swiss Open (BWF Super 300) saw action-packed opening-round matches for the Malaysian team, with Leong Jun Hao and Goh Jin Wei securing victories, while Malaysia’s men’s doubles pairs suffered early exits.

Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao, the country’s top-ranked men’s singles player, survived a tough battle against Japan’s Koo Takahashi, winning in straight games to advance to the Round of 16.

This marks Leong’s second World Tour victory of the season, following a difficult start in Malaysia Open, Indonesia Masters, and All England, where he suffered early-round exits.

Despite his struggles, Denmark’s national head coach Kenneth Jonassen remains confident in Leong’s progress.

🏸 Game 1: Leong had a slow start, trailing 5-11 at the interval.
However, he mounted a comeback, leveling at 16-16 and then taking the first game 21-19 after a late 3-0 run.
🏸 Game 2: The second game was closely contested, with both players neck and neck at 16-16. Leong earned three match points at 20-17, but Takahashi saved all three to force deuce. Under pressure, Leong held his nerve and sealed the match 22-20.

Next, Leong will face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, a seasoned veteran who could present a formidable challenge.

Goh Jin Wei Ends Losing Streak, Advances to Last 16

Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei produced an impressive performance, securing her first BWF World Tour win of 2025 after enduring early exits in the Malaysia Open and Indonesia Masters.

This victory also ended a nine-tournament losing streak, giving Goh a much-needed confidence boost.

🏸 Game 1: Goh raced to a 12-5 lead, but Pai fought back to level at 15-15.
Goh remained composed, finishing strong with a 6-3 run to take the game 21-18.
🏸 Game 2: The second game saw Goh completely dominate, pulling away to leads of 12-6, 14-7, and 17-9, before closing out the match 21-12.

Next up, Goh will face No. 2 seed Supanida Katethong (THA), who battled past Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova in three tough games (19-21, 21-11, 21-18).

Malaysian Men’s Doubles Pairs Crashed Out in Round 1 on Tuesday

Malaysia’s men’s doubles campaign ended early on Tuesday as all three pairs suffered first-round eliminations.

🔹 World No. 2 and top seeds Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin fell to Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa / Kyohei Yamashita in a hard-fought three-game thriller (23-25, 21-15, 11-21).

🔹 Ong Yew Sin / Teo Ee Yi battled hard but lost to Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-Huei / Yang Po-Hsuan in straight games (18-21, 26-28).

🔹 Tan Wee Kiong / Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn suffered a close 21-23, 18-21 defeat against Denmark’s Andreas Søndergaard / Jesper Toft, ending Malaysia’s hopes in the men’s doubles category.
