
Basel – Malaysia’s World No. 3 mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai, demonstrated their resilience at the 2025 Swiss Open by advancing to the quarter-finals on Thursday. In a thrilling second-round match, the top-seeded duo faced Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat. After dropping the first game 20-22, Goh and Lai fought back valiantly, clinching the next two games 25-23 and 21-11 to secure their spot in the last eight.

Goh/Lai will play another Thai pair – Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Supissara Paewsampran on Friday.
Their journey began with a dominant performance in the opening round, where they dispatched Taiwan’s Chen Zhi-Ray and Yang Ching-Tun in straight sets, 21-8, 21-18, in just 28 minutes.
In men’s singles action, Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao put up a strong fight against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the round of 16. Despite a valiant effort, Leong was edged out in a closely contested match, falling 17-21, 22-20, 20-22, thus ending his campaign at the Swiss Open.
Leong had previously showcased his tenacity by overcoming Japan’s Koo Takahashi in the first round, securing a 21-19, 22-20 victory.
In women’s singles, Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei also was knocked out by second seed Supanida Katethong of Thailand, losing 9-21, 21-18, 22-24.
